It is important that everyone affected by the Structure Plan has an opportunity to comment on it. For this reason, Cumbria County Council and the Lake District National Park Authority issued a Project Report in May 2000 outlining how the Structure Plan review would be undertaken. This was followed by a major consultation exercise from 26 November 2001 to 31 January 2002, which enabled a broad range of people and organisations to comment on how they wish to see the county planned.
The consultation on the Structure Plan highlighted a need for further discussion with key stakeholders and technical research on a number of planning issues. Such discussion has taken place and a series of Structure Plan Technical Papers have now been prepared. These have informed the preparation of the full draft (or Deposit) Structure Plan.
Formal consultation for representations on the Deposit Structure Plan ran from Saturday 31 May 2003 until Saturday 12 July 2003. The deposit of the Structure Plan generated representation from 185 organisations and individuals, resulting in around 1500 separate comments on the content of the Plan. The "duly made" representations have been considered by Cumbria County Council and the Lake District National Park Authority in preparing further changes to the Plan. These representations were also taken into account at the Structure Plan Examination in Public that was held to consider the key issues raised by the Plan. A report containing a full Schedule of Comments has now been prepared which details each separate comment made on the Deposit Structure Plan and the response of the Structure Plan authorities. This can be viewed by clicking on the menu to the left.
The Structure Plan Proposed Changes prepared by Cumbria County Council and the National Park Authority were placed on deposit from the 5 June 2004 until 17 July 2004. A report summarising the Comments on the Proposed Changes has been prepared by the two Structure Plan authorities. The comments had further informed discussion at the Structure Plan EIP, held in September\October 2004. Details of the EIP and the report of the panel can be viewed by clicking on the menu to the left.
The report of the Panel has subsequently informed the preparation of the Structure Plan Modifications published for consultation in September 2005. Following consideration of the comments, made on the modifications, the County Council and Lake District National Park Authority adopted the Structure Plan in April 2006.
